How about Andorra for your winter snow fix?
I’ve got mountains on my mind after a recent work trip to Andorra as a guest of the local tourist board. Perched in the Pyrenees surrounded by France and Spain, Andorra is the world’s 16th-smallest country and has Europe’s highest capital. Small but stunning, it’s about a 2.5-hour drive from Barcelona airport and around 3 hrs from Toulouse-Blagnac.
The biggest resort, Grandvalira, has seven different linked-up sectors across 215km of slopes, accessible with one ski pass. It opens at the beginning of December and snow security is good too, with 65% guaranteed coverage.
If you’re mulling where to hit the slopes this winter, Andorra’s a solid alternative to the Alps, with a growing choice of luxury ski-in ski-out accommodation, complete with luxury spas for tired muscles.

Lobby of the Heritage Hotel in Andorra
The Sport Hotel Hermitage & Spa is an impressive spot. This huge ski-in ski-out mountain lodge in Soldeu village is just 30 mins from the capital Andorra La Vella, and has everything you could want, including a huge spa and two Michelin-level restaurants. The renovated apartments in its sister property would be great for longer stays, and all rooms have mountain views.
The Serras Boutique Hotel Andorra is divine
The Serras Hotel is a brilliant option for families with kids thanks to their games rooms and free beginner slopes right outside the door. They have a fantastic restaurant and the spa is massive, with saunas, steam rooms and a jacuzzi pool.
For people wanting a bit more city buzz, the Blackpine Hotel (below) in the historic centre of Andorra La Vella is perfect, with light wood, minimalist design and super-comfy beds.
My favourite hotel of all the ones we visited is the Grau Roig. This boutique family-run hotel with an idyllic terrace (below) at the foot of the slopes is the perfect alpine retreat. It has a well-stocked wine cellar, elegant spa, and both a fine-dining and a fondue restaurant overlooking the mountains.
Booking any of these hotels through me gets you a bunch of Fora VIP perks – including complementary breakfasts, $100 USD equivalent in hotel credit, early check-in/late checkout + an upgrade based on availability.
The first snowflakes will soon be falling in the Pyrenees – let’s plan some winter fun!
All my best wishes,
Jill
